How to keep a telehealth visit private
Other platforms explain it with text and video. In VMS you practice it on the patient.
Patients share sensitive information during telehealth visits. Privacy builds trust and is required by law.
Step by step
Use a secure platform
Use a HIPAA-compliant video platform approved by your organization. [1]
Choose a private space
Use a closed room with no one else listening, and wear headphones if needed. [1]
Confirm identity
Confirm the patient's name and date of birth at the start. [1]
Ask who is present
Ask if anyone else is in the room and if the patient can speak freely. [1]
Offer a safe way to talk
For sensitive topics, use yes or no questions or the chat feature if others are near. [1]
Protect records
Do not record visits without consent and keep notes secure. [1]
Common errors
- Using a public or open video link.
- Not asking who else is listening.
- Taking the call in a shared space.
Practice it in VMS
In VMS you do this on the patient, not on paper: every step goes on the checklist with a score, and in Teach mode Blocky tells you what comes next.
