About the USMLE
The United States Medical Licensing Examination is the three-step licensing exam for physicians in the United States, owned by FSMB and NBME. Step 1 and Step 2 CK are computer-based question exams; Step 3 adds computer-based case simulations with simulated patients.
The live clinical skills exam, Step 2 CS, was discontinued in 2021, so medical schools train and assess clinical skills themselves, very often with OSCEs.
