How to deliver a baby in an emergency
Other platforms explain it with text and video. In VMS you practice it on the patient.
Most births go well. Your job is to support, keep the baby warm and watch the mother.
Step by step
Prepare
Call for help, gloves, clean area, towels, warm room. [1]
Crowning
Support the head gently to prevent a fast delivery. [1]
Cord
If around the neck, slip it over the head. [1]
Shoulders
Gentle downward guidance for the top shoulder, then upward. [1]
Baby
Dry, stimulate, skin to skin, cover; clamp and cut the cord after about a minute. [1]
Mother
Do not pull the cord; placenta usually within 30 minutes; massage the uterus; watch bleeding. [1]
Common errors
- Pulling the baby or cord.
- Letting the baby get cold.
- Missing heavy bleeding.
Practice it in VMS
In VMS you do this on the patient, not on paper: every step goes on the checklist with a score, and in Teach mode Blocky tells you what comes next.
